Sapphire or Pearl Engagement Ring?
My boyfriend and I are getting engaged and picking out the ring. I really don’t want a diamond even though he’s pushing for it. I am thinking of either a dark blue sapphire or a pearl ring. What do you think? I was thinking either one of these with smaller diamonds as accent on the side. Would I get tired of one of these later on and wish that I had a diamond instead?
I would not recommend a pearl as an engagement ring. Pearls are very soft, and simply will not stand up to constant wear over many years. I have 2 pearl rings, I love them, but they are only to be worn sparingly.
Sapphire is a wonderful stone (my birthstone) as it is next in hardness to the diamond and beautiful, as well.
There are also “white” stones you might like as a compromise with your BF. There is a white topaz and a white sapphire-both are clear like diamonds, but they aren’t. That might be something worht looking at and considering.
May I suggest a stone with some significance to you-like his birthstone or the stone that represents the month you will marry?
